Social Work

What is Social Work and Social Services?

Social work is a profession that is centred around people – from the very young through to older people. A social worker works with individuals and families to help improve outcomes in their lives. This may be helping to safeguard people from harm or abuse (vulnerable adults and children) or supporting people to live independently. Social workers supports people, act as advocates and can direct people to the services they may require. A social worker often works in social services departments for the local authority or multi-disciplinary teams alongside health and other social care professionals.

A Social worker may work in a variety of organisations. Many work for local authorities in departments that provide services for children or adults. Some work in NHS Trusts and others work in the voluntary sector.

What Social Work Services do We Offer?

We can provide a number of social work services that will enable us to assess and identify you or a family member’s social care needs.  We can then work with you to find the right package of care whether this is a home care agency or personal assistant that you employ to support you at home or finding the right residential or nursing home.

Amongst other services, we can be instructed to provide:

Why do we provide social work services?

Everyone who has a social care need is entitled to a free assessment of their need from the local authority. So before instructing us, we would always advise you to contact your local adult social services department.  If you have capital (such as savings or in some circumstances a home) over £23,250 you will be considered to be self-funding by your local social services department and an assessment of your social care needs sometimes the only support they are able to provide.

How Much does our social work services cost?

Because we are independent from your local social services, we don’t receive any funding from them to provide social work services.  However, we would like to offer you a free, no obligation initial consultation, either over the phone or via email.  Please contact us to arrange your initial consultation.

If you decide to instruct us to manage your social care or that of a relative, we offer our professional services at an hourly rate for the initial assessment, annual reviews or one-off pieces of work.  Ongoing work and monitoring is charged at a monthly fee.  You will be advised of any charges prior to the commencement  of any work.
